Africa-Press – Eswatini. King Mswati’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane says, the King renews or extends civil servants or security officers’ contracts if he feels their services are still needed, not as a demonstration of mercy for someone who is sick so that he/she can feel better.

This comes after senior police officers told that retired senior Deputy National Commissioner Richard Mngometulu suffered a stroke, after failing to secure an extended employment contract.

The senior cop who was playing a key role in the shooting and killing of civilians during the political unrest,is currently admitted at Mbabane Government Hospital, a health facility that is facing scarcity of drugs.

As reported by this publication last week, Richard Mngometulu’s relative who was with him in hospital confirmed that the retired senior cop was in a critical condition.

“Nkhosi, he has been trying invain to get an extended contract, only Madam Lydia Dlamini came back,”said a senior cop based at the Headquarters,in a message sent to this journalist.

But King’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane, when responding to our questionnaire, maintained that the King was not obligated to renew contracts as a demonstration of mercy for ailing persons and/or officers.

“The Constitution on which Royal Commands to extend retiring Civil Servants or Officers talks about persons the King feels he still needs to continue serving and does not say anything about ailing persons who may recover if their contracts are renewed. We believe the Constitution’s pronunciation still stands and the opinion from the street does not,” said the King’s Spokesperson.
