King Urges Soldiers to Stay Vigilant against Threats

Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has urged members of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) to remain vigilant against both visible and invisible threats as they carry out their national duty.

Speaking during the 53rd Army Day at Nokwane Army Barracks, the King explained that modern security challenges require heightened awareness and adaptability from soldiers at all times.

“A soldier today must not only stand against physical aggression but also against the invisible enemies of instability, lawlessness, and national division,” he said.

The King stressed that the evolving nature of threats demands a broader understanding of national security, extending beyond traditional warfare.

He shared that protecting the country now includes safeguarding communities from internal disruptions that may undermine peace and unity.

According to His Majesty, vigilance must be exercised across all sectors of society, including rural communities and educational institutions. He made it clear that the army plays a critical role in ensuring that no threat, whether seen or unseen, is allowed to take root.

“We need to guarantee that nothing threatens the peace of our citizens… or the future of the children in schools,” he said.

The King also commended soldiers for their discipline, resilience, and commitment to duty, noting that their presence continues to serve as a powerful deterrent against instability. He described their role as central to maintaining peace and national security.

In reinforcing this year’s theme, “The Safety of the Nation is Our Priority,” His Majesty reminded soldiers that their mission is to serve as the shield that protects the country at all times.

He emphasized that this responsibility requires constant readiness and unwavering dedication.

The King further encouraged continuous training and skills development to keep pace with global changes in security and warfare. While acknowledging the importance of technology, he stressed that it should not overshadow the human element in defence. “Technology can never replace the human spirit,” he noted.

Army Day celebrations featured impressive military drills and displays, showcasing the preparedness and professionalism of the UEDF. These performances reflected the army’s readiness to respond effectively to any threat.

The King concluded by confirming national support for the armed forces, expressing confidence in their ability to uphold peace and stability.
