Kwamagogo Legacy Run Launched

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, in collaboration with the Municipal Council of Manzini, officially launched the 14th edition of the KwaMagogo Legacy Run on Tuesday.

This flagship event, set to take place on 9 August 2025, affirms the deep connection between urban history, community wellness, and youth empowerment in Eswatini.

The announcement was made at a vibrant ceremony held at the Council Chambers in Manzini, where Honourable Minister Apollo Maphalala addressed attendees, emphasising the significance of the run beyond mere athletic competition.

“The KwaMagogo Legacy Run is not merely a race. It is a convergence of health, heritage, and hope — one that reflects His Majesty King Mswati III’s vision for a prosperous, resilient, and people-centred Eswatini,” he stated.

The KwaMagogo Legacy Run commemorates House Number 43 in Trelawney Park, a site that once served as a sanctuary for liberation fighters and has since evolved into a national heritage symbol.

The Minister highlighted the importance of this historical site, noting that the run serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made for the nation’s freedom and the ongoing journey towards a united future.

“Through this legacy, the run reinforces the role of cities in preserving identity while building forward into the future,” Maphalala added.

The KwaMagogo No.43 Foundation, a key partner in this initiative, has played a crucial role in preserving this iconic historical site.

The collaboration between the Ministry and the Foundation aims to embed the legacy of House Number 43 into the fabric of urban celebration and national memory.

“Together, we have not only preserved an iconic historical site, but we have also activated a platform for community engagement and celebration,” the Minister remarked.

The Legacy Run aligns with the Ministry’s broader strategic objectives outlined in the National Urban Development Plan, particularly focusing on building inclusive, livable cities that promote health, social integration, and economic activity.

“Events like these directly support our vision of vibrant, service-oriented cities. They foster local pride, draw tourism, and activate healthy urban lifestyles,” Maphalala explained.

Local schools, youth organizations, and health advocates are expected to rally behind the event, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration.

In addition to the run, the event will include educational workshops and health screenings aimed at promoting awareness about physical fitness, mental health, and the importance of community involvement.

“We want to create an atmosphere where people not only participate in the run but also engage with important health topics that affect our communities,” said a representative from the Municipal Council.
