Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Health, through the Eswatini National Nutrition Council (ENNC), has partnered with the Tzu Chi Foundation to bring essential health services to the Lobamba community, screening more than 600 people for malnutrition and other health concerns.
The collaborative outreach, held recently in Lobamba, focused on promoting nutrition awareness and ensuring early detection and treatment of malnutrition—particularly among children and vulnerable adults.
The ENNC spearheaded the nutrition component of the initiative, conducting educational sessions and providing hands-on screening services. Through these efforts, several cases of malnutrition were identified and addressed on the spot. Those affected received nutrition counselling and therapeutic foods to support their recovery.
In a move to promote optimal infant feeding practices, the ENNC also distributed breastfeeding cushions to mothers as part of its ongoing campaign to encourage and support breastfeeding.
Beyond nutrition, the outreach offered a broad range of essential health services aimed at improving overall community well-being. These included cancer screening, physiotherapy, and general medical consultations, ensuring that residents received comprehensive, holistic care.
According to health officials, this multi-faceted approach not only tackled immediate nutritional challenges but also addressed broader physical and preventive health needs. The integration of different services was praised for its effectiveness in reaching diverse members of the community.
A representative from the Ministry of Health described the outreach as “a meaningful demonstration of what collaboration can achieve when health and community stakeholders unite towards a common goal.”
The event also highlighted the power of partnership between government institutions and non-governmental organisations. The Tzu Chi Foundation, known globally for its humanitarian efforts, played a pivotal role by mobilising medical professionals and volunteers who offered their expertise free of charge.
“This outreach reflects our shared vision of accessible healthcare for all,” said a Tzu Chi Foundation representative. “Working together with the Ministry of Health allows us to make a lasting difference in the lives of Eswatini citizens.”
The Ministry of Health and the ENNC expressed appreciation to all volunteers and community members who participated, noting that such initiatives are key to advancing national health objectives and improving the quality of life for Emaswati.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining similar joint efforts in the future, aiming to expand outreach activities to more regions across the country.
The success of the Lobamba campaign stands as a strong example of unity in action, bringing vital healthcare directly to the people and reinforcing Eswatini’s drive towards healthier, more resilient communities.
