Africa-Press – Eswatini. SNAT Secretary General, Lot Vilakati, has called on all teachers to join the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), describing membership as “heaven in the Bible.”
His remarks were made during the 2025 Teachers’ Day celebration at the Mavuso Exhibition and Trade Centre, where educators from across the country gathered to honour teaching as a noble profession.
Speaking passionately to educators, Vilakati likened SNAT to “heaven in the Bible,” saying, “When we die, we will seek the SNAT Gates in Heaven. We will say, ‘Jesus, show us the SNAT Gates, the Gates of Valued Members.’ SNAT members are heaven’s inherent heritage, angels of Heaven on Earth.”
Vilakati emphasized the eternal nature of the association, assuring members, “This SNAT is for everyone, regardless of age. Former leaders who have passed away will always be part of it, as it will exist forever.” He described members as “God’s lovely ones, who save as angels, all of you are beautiful and handsome.”
Highlighting the importance of solidarity, Vilakati urged members to care for one another. “It is about time each Valued Member looks after their fellow member. Never go to sleep without knowing how another VM is faring. Every morning, greet each other and ask, ‘How is life?’”
He also addressed challenges in staff dynamics, calling for an end to conflicts among teachers. “Teachers must live in peace and harmony. Stop talking behind each other’s backs because of disagreements in meetings,” Vilakati said.
On personal relationships, he warned against romantic entanglements that disrupt professional conduct. “If love affairs prevent you from working in a conducive environment, stop them. As the Bible says, remove anything that disturbs your life; if your eye causes you to see what you shouldn’t, remove it.”
Vilakati further emphasized collaboration in teaching. “Teachers on the same stream must work together to set tests. Grade 1A teachers should collaborate with Grade 1B teachers. The same applies in secondary schools. This ensures accurate assessment of student performance and helps measure success collectively.”
He concluded by reminding educators of the noble responsibility they carry, urging them to continue serving with dedication, unity, and integrity, both inside and outside the classroom.
