Africa-Press – Eswatini. In the financial year 2022/2023, Matsapha Town Council’s surplus declined to E1 912 160 from E2 119 160 realised in the 2021/2022 financial year.
This is according to the council’s annual report for the financial year 2022/23. The council’s Engineering and Town Planning Department reported to have embarked on a Led lights installation at Tubungu, which was the council’s efforts to improve lighting efficiency and save energy costs for the town.
To promote environmentally friendly use of energy, the council seeks to implement the installation of LED lights as they contain non-toxic elements. The project was implemented at an Estimated cost of E500 000. As a measure of easing traffic congestion in the town of Matsapha, the council implemented a traffic lights upgrade along MR103 and Ludvonga Street. This is one of the measures the council is implementing to resolve the issue of traffic congestion in the town. The project was implemented at a cost of E150 000.

The council mentioned to be committed to permanently resolving the issue of traffic congestion in Matsapha.
During the 2022/2023 financial year, the council also undertook a rehabilitation project of King Mswati III Street. This included the rehabilitation of the street junction, walkways, pipe culverts, and drains.
Through this project, the town has realised an improvement in the traffic flows, as well as an improved drainage system along that street. The project was implemented for E5 000 000. According to the council, rates and user fees collected for the 2022/23 financial year was E42 360 863 while in the previous financial year it was E31 211 190.
