MINISTER PROMISES PAY RISE FOR CONTRACT TEACHERS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. In a what will come as good news to educators, the Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko has pledged a salary increase for contract teachers, a move aimed at improving their working conditions and recognizing their dedication to nurturing the nation’s learners.

The announcement came on August 13, 2025 during the ordinary House of Assembly sitting, where Mayiwane MP Sicelo Prince Dlamini successfully moved a motion calling for better conditions for contract teachers.

The Mayiwane legislator was seconded by Mbabane East MP Welcome Dlamini, who both called for Minister Maseko to improve the working conditions of the contract teachers. The MPs wanted a report on how he was working on the matter, within seven days from August 13, 2025.

The Minister assured MPs that the salary increment is part of ongoing efforts to ensure teachers are fairly rewarded for their service, which plays a critical role in shaping Eswatini’s future.

Maseko promised to table a report before Parliament within 21 days from August 13, 2025. This was after he pleaded with the House to give him the period of 21 days to work on this matter. The report would be detailing on what government had done to improve the contract teachers’ situation.

He stated that this matter was important, as it affected about 16 000 teachers, including permanent teachers.

This commitment is expected to bring hope and motivation to many educators across the country, reinforcing government’s recognition of the invaluable role they play in society.
