Africa-Press – Eswatini. The ministry of natural resources and energy is following closely the developments on fuel price hike in South Africa.
This comes after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy published the official fuel price adjustments for April.
The adjustment according to reports will be effected starting from yesterday. BusinessTech reported that the fuel price hike takes into account the emergency interventions announced by National Treasury in cooperation with the energy department whereby the general fuel levy will be reduced by R1.50 until 31 May.
Changes
The changes for April are that petrol 95 will increase by R0.36 per litre; diesel by R1.52 per litre.
Eswatini is a net importer of fuel and its products from South Africa (SA), which helps in boosting Southern African Customs Union (SACU) receipts.
Special permits to import imports fuel from Mozambique are also issued for Eswatini. Fuel price changes in South Africa tend to have effects to Eswatini as well.
Communications Officer at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy Sikelela Khoza said the ministry does not adjust fuel prices in response to price adjustments in South Africa.
“The ministry is currently monitoring and analysing the situation, which will then give direction on whether a price adjustment is necessary or not,” Khoza said.
He gave an assurance that the nation will be informed if there is an adjustment whether an increase or a decrease through a press release.
The last fuel price increase in the country was at the beginning of last month where the ministry of natural resources and energy announced that the petrol price had increased by E1.40 per litre whilst diesel and paraffin increased by E1.60 per litre.
The reason given by the ministry at that time was that the price of international crude oil had increased Currently, the price of fuel for unleaded petrol (95) is E18.55 per litre while for diesel it is E18.60 per litre.
