Africa-Press – Eswatini. FANS will have to wait for another week before they can witness the inaugural MTN MoMo Cup finals.
This follows the postponement of the finals from this coming weekend to the next with the matches to be played at the Somhlolo National Stadium.
The postponement follows finalists Nsingizini Hotspurs’ request due to the fact that a number of their players are in the Eswatini Under-23 squad.
The newcomers have four players in the junior national squad that left the country yesterday morning for their 2023 TotalEnergies U-23 AFCON Qualifiers second leg match against Egypt on Sunday.
Premier League of Eswatini Chief Executive (CEO) Officer Kenneth Makhanya announced the news yesterday at Mahlalekhukhwini House. “The PLE announces the postponement of the MoMo Cup finals from Sunday October 30 to Sunday November 6.
This request has been taken after extensive consideration by the PLE executive after receiving correspondence from Nsingizini Hotspurs FC early today informing the PLE office that the National Under-23 team departed this morning for Egypt with four of their players. The PLE executive has resolved to accept the request from Nsingizini Hotspurs FC,” he said.
He further apologised to stakeholders for the inconvenience the delay would cause. “We sincerely apologise to our sponsors MTN FinTech, fans and supporters who have been voting for their clubs, the PLE clubs involved and all stakeholders for the unfortunate decision,” he said.
Makhanya further announced that they would stage the week four MTN Premier League fixtures this Sunday excluding games for Young Buffaloes and Manzini Wanderers who also have players in the Under-23 squad.
“We are now working on the fixture and the games are scheduled to take place on Sunday,” he said.
The Momo Cup finals will feature four teams in Mbabane Highlanders, Nsingizini Hotspurs, Moneni Pirates and Rangers who will be fighting for the E600 000 first prize carrot.
