Africa-Press – Eswatini. Msimisi, a talented musician signed under Platinum Concepts, recently composed a song for a new Netflix series called ‘Yoh! Christmas,’ title ‘Out of the blue,’ which was released on Friday, December 15.
This marks the second time this year that Msimisi’s song writing skills have gained recognition. He recently went to Kenya earlier in the year to attend an African Union event celebrating a policy that was previously passed two decades ago. He was further commissioned to create an anthem for the Maputo Protocol Policy. He has also had the honour of sharing stages with renowned artists such as Zakes Bantwini, Ami Faku, Nkosazana Daughter, Mlindo The Vocalist and Sizwe Alakine, among others.

Msimisi’s journey to composing music for the Netflix series began when Samkelo Mahlalela, from a Johannesburg-based company, discovered Msimisi’s work on social media and reached out to him. This led to an invitation to Johannesburg to collaborate with producers Slotta, Fiki and Pixelwaveaudio on creating music for the series. “I had the opportunity to make music for a new Netflix series ‘Yoh! Christmas’. It was collaboration between myself, my producers Slotta, Fiki and Pixelwaveaudio. They invited me to Johannesburg and we made music for the series.
Actually Samkelo Mahlalela, who is from a Johannesburg based company, came across my work on social media and reached out. We stayed connected for about a year and he told me about this series and invited me to SA to work on this,” Msimisi said. Msimisi expressed his excitement about the opportunity, emphasising the impact of having his music featured on a platform like Netflix, which can reach a wide audience. He went on to describe the whole experience citing that it was amazing. “It was pretty amazing. I knew it was coming but things have been so busy I only managed to watch it a day after it came out. Getting to see the amount of work that goes into it is amazing and this sheds light on the opportunities that go into it,” he said.
