Africa-Press – Eswatini. With only four days remaining before the highly anticipated Ruby Jubilee and 58th Birthday celebrations of King Mswati III, members of the public from across Eswatini and beyond are being encouraged to attend the festivities in large numbers, with free entry confirmed for all.
The celebrations will be held at Somhlolo National Stadium, where gates will open as early as 7am to accommodate the expected influx of attendees. Final rehearsals will be done this coming Tuesday at Somhlolo National Stadium.
Nationwide mobilisation
The Ministry of Home Affairs, which is overseeing the event, has intensified its nationwide mobilisation campaign through a series of roadshows aimed at raising awareness and encouraging participation. These roadshows have been staged in various towns, including Mankayane, Malkerns and Siteki, drawing enthusiastic crowds.
The campaign continues on Monday, April 20, 2026, with another activation scheduled for Ezulwini. As part of the celebrations, South African Maskandi artist Khuzani Mpungose is expected to perform, adding to the excitement of the event at no cost to attendees.
Safety concerns highlighted
Meanwhile, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has emphasised the importance of safety during the celebrations. Siteki Station Commander Elmon Nkonde urged emaSwati to prioritise responsible behaviour, particularly on the roads.
He called on motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, adhere to traffic regulations, and avoid drinking and driving. Nkonde also encouraged citizens to secure their homes while attending the event and remain vigilant at all times.
Quoting the wisdom of King Sobhuza II, Nkonde reminded the public of the phrase “nawe uliphoyisa”, urging every citizen to take personal responsibility for safety.
Strong community participation
The roadshows have been marked by vibrant displays of unity and patriotism. In Malkerns, a lively march from St Andrew’s to Malkerns Square brought together residents in celebration of the King’s 40 years on the throne. The procession, led by the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Malkerns Town Council, featured performances by the Correctional Services Band and drum majorettes from Ngcoseni Central High School.
Similarly, the Mankayane roadshow attracted large crowds, including children, youth and elders, all united in commemorating the milestone. The event featured speeches from various leaders and officials, alongside cultural performances that added colour and energy to the occasion.
Spirit of unity
Across all the towns visited, a strong sense of national pride and unity has been evident. From the distribution of commemorative T-shirts to cultural displays and musical performances, the roadshows have reinforced a shared sense of purpose as the country prepares for the historic double celebration.
As the countdown continues, emaSwati are being urged to turn out in their numbers and take part in what promises to be a memorable national occasion celebrating a reign defined by legacy, excellence and impact.
