NEDBANK INJECTS E500K INTO SIBEBE CHALLENGE

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Nedbank Eswatini has reaffirmed its commitment to community development and wellness by investing E500 000 in the 2025 Sibebe Survivor Challenge. The popular event, held on Sunday, July 26, 2025, drew a record crowd of around 4 500 participants from various parts of the country and beyond.

Organised by the Mbabane-Mbuluzi Rotary Club, the challenge marked its 20th edition this year and continues to grow in popularity. It has evolved from a simple hiking event into a major annual occasion that blends adventure, fitness, charity, and community upliftment. The challenge is set against the backdrop of the iconic Sibebe Rock—the world’s second-largest monolith—which offers breathtaking scenery and a physically demanding route that attracts fitness enthusiasts, families, and corporate teams alike.

The event also garnered the attention of government officials, including the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Mkhonta-Simelane. The ministry acknowledged the importance of the Sibebe Survivor Challenge in promoting domestic tourism and positioning Eswatini as a destination for eco-tourism and adventure travel. It was also praised as an effective platform for strengthening public-private partnerships aimed at uplifting local communities.

Nedbank Eswatini, the headline sponsor, expressed gratitude to the thousands who participated. Beyond the excitement of the hike, the bank emphasized the far-reaching social impact of the event. Proceeds from the challenge have enabled the funding of high school education for 500 underprivileged children. Moreover, the initiative has supported infrastructure development in rural communities, including the construction of much-needed footbridges in hard-to-reach areas.

In addition, women farmer organisations have benefited through access to capital for launching and sustaining income-generating agricultural projects. These contributions reflect Nedbank’s broader mission of empowering communities and driving inclusive economic development.

The 2025 Sibebe Survivor Challenge proved once again that with collaborative effort, outdoor recreation can serve as a powerful tool for social change, community support, and national pride.
