Africa-Press – Eswatini. The National Emergency Response Council on HIV and AIDS (NERCHA) and the Ministry of Health have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to antiretroviral (ARV) treatment amid temporary adjustments in the dispensing process.
This comes in response to recent public concerns about the availability of ARVs in Eswatini. NERCHA acknowledged the challenges within the supply chain that have temporarily shifted the usual three-month ARV supply to a one-month distribution schedule. However, the council emphasized that this adjustment is a proactive measure to safeguard the health and well-being of all people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the country.
The Ministry of Health has confirmed there is no stockout of ARVs. Instead, they have swiftly implemented a contingency plan, in collaboration with NERCHA and other partners, to ensure equitable distribution of ARVs to all clients. This adjustment, they explained, is a strategic step to maintain continuous access to treatment until procurement processes stabilize.
NERCHA’s spokesperson urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic, highlighting that transparency will be maintained throughout this period. Regular updates on the situation will be shared to keep all stakeholders informed and engaged.
“The temporary adjustment is about equity and continuity,” a NERCHA representative stated. “It ensures that everyone who needs ARVs receives them, even if it means adjusting the quantity for a short while. We want to assure every citizen that our efforts are fully focused on resolving these challenges promptly.”
The Ministry of Health and NERCHA are also urging the public to avoid any actions that might disrupt public order. They reiterated that every effort is being made to ensure a steady and reliable supply of ARVs going forward.
