NEW RULE: SCHOOL DONATIONS MUST GO VIA MINISTRY

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Education and Training has announced a new directive requiring that all partners and well-wishers intending to provide donations or services to schools must channel their support through the Ministry.

The move, outlined in a recent public statement, is aimed at strengthening coordination, accountability and equitable distribution of support across schools in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

According to the Ministry, central coordination will help prevent duplication of assistance, ensure transparency, and align all interventions with national education priorities.

The announcement has sparked discussion among education stakeholders and members of the public, with differing views emerging on how school donations should be managed.

Supporters of the directive argue that some schools have historically benefited more than others due to location or visibility, while under-resourced schools remain overlooked. They believe that routing donations through the Ministry will help ensure fairness and reach learners most in need.

Others, however, question whether the new rule could slow down urgently needed assistance or discourage smaller donors who prefer direct engagement with schools they support.

The Ministry has clarified that the directive is not intended to block goodwill, but to enhance the impact of every contribution made toward education.

It reaffirmed its appreciation to development partners, civil society organisations, companies and individuals whose continued support plays a critical role in improving access to inclusive and quality education.

As Eswatini works toward strengthening its education system, the new rule has opened space for a national conversation on balancing coordination, efficiency and community involvement in supporting schools.
