Africa-Press – Eswatini. Manchester United Goalkeeper André Onana, has been recalled to be part of the 27-member Cameroon’s squad for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Eswatini’s Sihlangu SeMnikati on Thursday in Yaoundé.
Onana’s club teammate, Bryan Mbeumo has been left out of the Indomitable Lions’ squad to face Sihlangu.
Choupo-Moting Back After Year’s Absence
One of the biggest talking points is the return of veteran striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The 36-year-old, now with New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, has earned a recall after over a year away from international duty, thanks to his consistent performances in the MLS.
Also making headlines is Loïc Etoga, who has received his first-ever senior call-up, while winger Georges-Kévin N’Koudou has also been included after joining Saudi Arabia’s Al-Diraiyah FC.
Core of Experience Remains
The squad retains its experienced spine, with André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Carlos Baleba, Michael Ngadeu, Christian Bassogog, Frank Magri, and Martin Hongla all named. Captain Vincent Aboubakar, without a club since May, has also been retained. Rising star Aboubakar Nagida is another notable inclusion.
Head coach Marc Brys expressed confidence in his selections:
“Many of the players are in top form, and most are well-versed in international competitions,” he told reporters in Yaoundé.
Preparations Underway
The Indomitable Lions’ camp is already buzzing, with 14 players checking in at the Hilton Hotel on Monday. The rest were expected by Tuesday, leaving the squad just a single day to prepare fully for the Eswatini clash.
