Africa-Press – Eswatini. AFTER last Saturday’s barbaric attack on club director Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini, Manzini Wanderers’ Council of Elders are now concerned about the safety of officials.

Dlamini was physically and verbally attacked by club supporters following last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Denver Sundowns. Wanderers are yet to register a win since New Year’s Day in what has been a disastrous run of form. On behalf of the Council of Elders, Chairman Joe Nkumane said they were saddened at the turn of events, more so for the safety of lives.

In an impromptu meeting, the elders met with the Management Committee (MC) and board of directors to discuss the prevailing situation at the maroon and white glamour side.

“There is no doubt the club is not where it should be. First of all the current MC, when one looks at where we come from, has given their all in steering the club thus far. We also thank the board of directors and the Managing Director Cedric Mathatha for the financial muscle he has provided to the Club.

”Secondly, the supporters are the backbone of our club together with players, the latter having endured the heavy impact of all the difficulties as main players on the stage,” Nkumane said in a statement.

Nkumane added that as the Council of Elders, they gave full support to the MC on relevant issues and urged supporters to give them the support they needed to carry out the task of steering the ship to calm waters.

“Most of all we request full respect of their lives to be kept safe, as they perform their duties. Any efforts are measured by positive results which have not been forthcoming lately. We fully agreed on this aspect during the meeting and this is what supporters and all of us look forward to,” he said.

He added that problem areas were identified during their meeting, and solutions mapped out.

“We therefore call for calm and request all stakeholders to give time to these initiatives to settle. This is a crucial time that is not for any drastic changes to be implemented. We also urge all Wanderers loving supporters and followers to voice out their grievances through the available channels where these could be appropriately addressed.

Let us value life and above all, respect it and let us also respect the Manzini Wanderers brand,” Nkumane said.
