Africa-Press – Eswatini. Over 455 alumni of the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) registered for the University Council elections on the final day of registration, February 11, 2026.
This follows a call by Registrar Max Mkhonza urging former students to participate in the University Council as part of efforts to rebuild the institution to its former glory.
In a statement, Mkhonza encouraged graduates to move beyond discussing needed changes and become actively involved in shaping the university’s future.
“We often talk about the changes needed at the University of Eswatini. Now is the time for our graduates to be part of that change. Alumni representatives on Council are essential for a successful turnaround, providing the independence needed to move forward,” he said.
Alumni are defined as graduates or former students of a particular school, college, or university.
Mkhonza described alumni as the “secret” to a successful university recovery.
“The momentum is incredible! With 455+ registrations already in, the UNESWA alumni community is showing up loud and clear. From Pius XII College to UNESWA, your engagement is what shapes our future. Wednesday, 11 February, is your last chance to nominate the two (2) Alumni Representatives to the University Council. Don’t let the clock run out on your voice,” he wrote.
The registrar had earlier emphasized that alumni are not just part of the university’s past but serve as a “stabilising mechanism” for its future.
He added that the institution cannot be stabilised without the active input and participation of its alumni.
The deadline for registration is midnight.
