Africa-Press – Eswatini. The 7th edition of the Mbabane Marathon concluded with a vibrant prize-presentation ceremony held November 22,2025 led by the Honourable Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Muzi Bongani Nzima.

He was joined by the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Apollo Maphalala, and the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Mkhonta-Simelane, who also serves as the Mbabane West MP.

The dignitaries applauded the athletes for their remarkable performances, noting that the marathon once again elevated Eswatini’s sporting pride. Over E120 500 was handed out to top performers across all categories, rewarding their resilience and exceptional displays.

FULL RESULTS AND PRIZES

In the 42km men’s category, South Africa’s Bonginkosi Mavuso claimed first place and walked away with E20 000, followed by UEDF athlete Ntokozo Nkonyane who secured second position with a prize of E10 000. Mancoba Nhlabatsi completed the top three, earning E6 000 for his impressive finish. In the 42km women’s race, Kenya’s Rosina Kiboino dominated the field to take home the E20 000 first prize. She was followed by Nomvula Sithole in second place with E10 000, while Nelisiwe Magongo settled for third place, earning E6 000.

The 10km men’s division saw Manqoba Sangweni clinch first position and the E5 000 prize, ahead of Colani Ndlela who finished second to claim E2 500. Orince Ndlovu completed the podium in third place with E1 700. In the 10km women’s race, Minenhle Mnguni took top honours and the E5 000 prize, followed by Siphesihle Ngwenya in second with E2 500. Khangetile Mvili secured third place and earned E1 700.

In the 5km men’s category, the first prize of E1 500 went to Siyabonga Simelane, while Wakhile Xolisani Vilane finished second to earn E700. Third place was taken by Sizwe Mwale, who received E350. The 5km women’s race was won by Phiwokuhle Bulunga, earning E1 500, with the second-place athlete (name not provided) receiving E700. Sanele Hlatjwako finished third and collected E350.

For the 21km women’s category, some names were still pending at the time of reporting. However, Thobile Ngwenyama of Correctional Services secured first place and took home E7 000. Second place, with a prize of E3 500, is yet to be confirmed. The third-place position went to 18-year-old Sanelisiwe Mphaphu of Manzini Central High School, who received E2 000.

South Africa’s Bonginkosi Mavuso, who won the 42KM race in 2:37:53, said this year’s race was “a bit tougher,” especially with Ntokozo Nkonyane finishing just seconds behind him in 2:38:13. Mavuso adds this victory to his 2023 Mbabane Marathon win and his 2019 Imbube Marathon title.

Kenya’s Rosina Kiboino continued her dominance following her Imbube Marathon triumph, while rising star Sanelisiwe Mphaphu maintained her winning momentum after claiming the EKukhanyeni Army Recruitment Race last month.

The 7th Mbabane Marathon once again showcased unity, excellence and the strengthening of distance running in Eswatini.
