Africa-Press – Eswatini. In a display of unwavering cultural reverence and solidarity, His Majesty King Mswati III was presented with generous contributions (tetfulo) totalling over E16 million towards the success of the on-going sacred Incwala ceremony.

The offerings, including cattle, cash, groceries, sneakers, and torches, were presented to the king at the Ngabezweni Royal Residence, significantly enriching the essence and success of this important cultural celebration.

From government officials to politicians, companies, and individuals, a multitude came forth to contribute, underscoring the widespread tradition of support not limited to royal festivities but extending across various tiers of Eswatini society, emphasising the significance of communal backing for revered ceremonies.

This display of unity occurred on the fifth day of the on-going Little Incwala, a pivotal moment within Eswatini’s cultural calendar.

Proceedings

Overseeing the proceedings, Ncumbi Maziya conveyed to His Majesty that the contributions had exceeded E16 million, representing diverse forms of support.

By late afternoon, the royal residence was filled with vehicles transporting cattle and an assortment of gifts.

Such contributions are part of Eswatini culture, wherein support is shown towards ceremonies of such significance and does not only apply to royal festivities as it is practised at chiefdom and family level.

His Majesty personally toured the offerings, expressing gratitude to the contributors.

In acknowledging the overwhelming support, His Majesty lauded the societal dedication to preserving and honouring cultural heritage, emphasising the communal role in safeguarding Eswatini’s cultural tapestry.

“I am pleased to witness your generous contributions, and may the good Lord bless you all,” remarked the king, commending the impressive turnout during the Little Incwala.

Amid the ceremonial proceedings of receiving contributions (tetfulo), His Majesty the King infused warmth and laughter.

Demonstrating his amiable nature, the king reminisced about past encounters and actively engaged in conversations, bringing cheer to the gathering.

He delighted contributors by recalling personal moments with some, showcasing his remarkable ability to connect with his people on a personal level.

Memorable

The king’s affable demeanour was evident as he warmly conversed with contributors, fostering a sense of closeness and community.

A memorable highlight was His Majesty’s enthusiastic involvement in arranging group photographs, playfully ensuring everyone was positioned perfectly, showcasing his attention to detail and infectious humour.

Continuously engaging with the media, the king lightened the atmosphere by jovially asking if they were well-fitted into each picture, highlighting his down-to-earth and approachable nature.

Just before addressing the gathering, His Majesty jokingly teased the press about their lack of contributions, drawing chuckles and further demonstrating his ability to effortlessly connect with all attendees, including the media, fostering camaraderie.

Attendance

Through his genial interactions and good-humoured banter, the king reaffirmed his approachability and deep-rooted connection with his people.

Following the presentations, His Majesty joined Libutfo for the day five dance of the Little Incwala, where Emaswati continued to actively participate.

The numbers continue to increase daily as imbali and ingatja regiments continue to form part of the regiments.

Simultaneously, Her Majesty the Indlovukazi led the dancing at Ludzidzini Royal Residence, maintaining a remarkable attendance despite some regiments joining the King at Ngabezweni.

The sustained increase in contributions and attendance reflects Emaswati’s deep-rooted cultural reverence, ensuring the success and sanctity of the sacred Incwala ceremony.

The Little Incwala marks the end of seclusion after the herb and water party (bemanti) exemplifying how the king can beam his sunrays onto the nation.

It begins at the Ludzidzini Cattle Byre, before moving to Ngabezweni. It is also expected to proceed to other royal residences, including Mbangweni and Buhleni, and His Majesty is expected to commission Ingatja anytime for the sacred shrub (lusekwane).
