Africa-Press – Eswatini. In order for the Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise (EWADE) to execute its mandate, the Government of Eswatini and several other development partners pumped in at least E472 179 831.

The EWADE was realised by government in 1999, as the Swaziland Komati Project Enterprise (SKPE), an institution that was established to lead and co-ordinate a water-based project in the Downstream Komati Basin. This project was intended to transform the Komati Basin and the livelihoods of the people there through intense agricultural activity. Successful co-ordination of this project saw the birth of the now Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise (EWADE), following an expanded mandate.

The focus is on mobilising people for development on Eswatini Nation Land and constructive use of water resources to stimulate food security, poverty alleviation and social invigoration in disadvantaged parts of the country. During the financial year 2022/23, the government pumped in at least E198 847 790, while the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) pumped in E102 993 422 into the company. European Investment Bank (EIB) pumped in E74 086 402, the Government of Kuwait funded the projects with a grant of E27 368 254. The MTN Foundation also made a grant contribution of E211 777.
