Africa-Press – Eswatini. GREEN Mamba are said to be making frantic efforts to lure another Mbabane Highlanders’ star player Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze into their camp.

The former Desportivo de Maputo player is said to have left the capital city giants a week ago due to contractual issues after making his last appearance for the ‘Black Bull’ during the recent Bible Society Cup.

If the deal goes through, Sikhondze is expected to unite with former Highlanders’ captain Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa at the Correctional Services outfit, a club coached by Ernest Mavuso and Sandile Lulane.

He is set to become the fourth major signing for the green and white ensemble after ‘Sikhali’, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu (Mbabane Swallows) and Mthunzi ‘Chippa’ Motsa (Wanderers).

A source within the Matsapha based outfit revealed that Sikhondze started training with ‘Inyoka Eluhlazana’ yesterday afternoon.

“Papi’ is set to join Green Mamba as he is already training with them. They are expected to finalise negotiations before the end of the week. He has been identified as an ideal candidate to stabilise the team’s midfield,” the source said.

Highlanders’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Clement Dlamini said he was unaware of these developments. “I’m yet to get a report from the manager, otherwise we have signed new players who were unveiled by the MD on Tuesday,” he said.

Meanwhile, his Green Mamba counterpart Mandla Sibiya could not be drawn for comment on the matter as his cellphone rang unanswered when tried yesterday.

Other players who have left Highlanders are Nkosinathi ‘Smally’ Fakude, Lindokuhle ‘Ntolo’ Fakudze, Menzi Mamba, Ndumiso ‘Tower’ Ndaba and Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule.
