Africa-Press – Eswatini. Nothando Dladla, a young woman from rural Lomshiyo, refused to sit and wait for opportunities. Instead, she used her passion, training, and resourcefulness to create her own path as an educator. She now runs her own growing tutoring initiative both online and in person helping learners shine in Maths, Science, and beyond.

Raised in the community of Ntfonjeni under the Hhohho Region, Dladla developed a deep appreciation for education through the guidance of her late grandmother. Today, she holds a Primary Teacher’s Diploma, specialising in Mathematics and Science, which she obtained from Workers University College in 2023. While she once had doubts about teaching, her experience preparing for exams as a student helped her realise just how powerful the act of teaching can be not only for others but also for her own growth.

Now, she offers extra classes to learners from Grade 1 to Form 3, with a focus on personalised academic support. Her face to face sessions run from 3 PM to 6 PM, while the mornings are dedicated to online lessons, booked in advance and tailored to individual needs. She teaches reading, writing, spelling, and homework support at primary level, and prepares high school learners for tests and exams in core subjects, all with a strong foundation in Maths and Science.

Dladla’s teaching style is built on care and understanding. She believes in meeting learners at their own pace and making the classroom a safe, encouraging space. “You should know your learners, be there for them emotionally and academically. Don’t compare them. Adjust your methods, reward their efforts, and keep every learner included,” she says.

Her efforts are paying off. She speaks with pride about a student who scored 100% in a test they prepared for together and another who achieved 85% in French, a subject she had never taught before. “Seeing their results and those proud smiles, that’s my greatest reward,” she adds.

The feedback from parents has been overwhelmingly positive. Many in her community continue to recommend her services, not only because of her teaching abilities but because of the trust she has built. “When you do something out of passion, not just for payment, people see that. I always put the learners first, and that commitment has brought support from all around me,” she says.

Dladla sees this journey as more than a temporary pursuit it is a foundation for something greater. She dreams of one day opening her own private school, with a clear goal: to build a generation of learners who achieve nothing below 80%. “I’m working on increasing numbers not just the number of students, but the number of confident, high performing learners,” she says.

Teaching, for Dladla, is more than a means to earn, it is a calling. “Personally, this has boosted my confidence in a way that I can stand and never be shaken as long as I know my story,” she reflects. “It has also made me eager to try new things. In this field, you really need experience, and the more you do it, the more you learn. Take some risks there’s nothing impossible.”

What fuels all this? A love for learning. “I have always been passionate about learning, and this drives my enthusiasm for teaching,” she says. “Whether I’m reading the latest research or exploring new teaching methods, this commitment to growth fuels my passion for sharing knowledge with others.”
