Africa-Press – Eswatini. It is a new era for the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) after the organisation adopted a new constitution or statutes that will govern the elite league.

This comes after the new statutes were adopted by PLE teams during the Ordinary General Assembly held at Sigwaca House yesterday.

The new statutes will see candidates that want to stand for the chairmanship serve less time on the PLE executive committee (Exco) before they qualify. PLE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya confirmed the latest developments when giving an update on how the assembly had gone.

The last Ordinary General Assembly was held on August 13 last year, with two special meetings that were called this year, namely on March 19 and July 29.

The change to the statutes comes after they were last reviewed back in 2020 and following concerns from EFA, they were sent to the constitutional review committee. They were finally given the green light earlier this year in March.

According to Article 37 of the PLE Statutes, a member can now serve for two years as part of the PLE executive before he/she can stand or qualify to be chairman of the association. This is a change from the previous requirement which needed one to have a minimum of years in the executive before that candidate could qualify for chairmanship.

Announce

“Today we are happy to announce that we have just adopted a new statute that has been endorsed by EFA. Apart from that we also had the adoption of the compliance manual as well as the rules and regulations which are tied to the newly adopted statutes,” he said.

The CEO further reiterated that they were still hoping to kick-start the new season at the end of the month and were waiting for sponsors. He further said there had been no new developments in as far as confirming the return of other cup competitions, and they were still at the negotiating table.
