Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to championing the principle of “African solutions to African problems,” underscoring the importance of strengthening continental mechanisms for peace, security, and governance.
The Prime Minister delivered this message while representing His Majesty King Mswati III and the nation at the 7th AU-EU Summit, held in Luanda, Angola.
Speaking during the high-level gathering, Dlamini highlighted the summit’s focus on revitalising the long-standing partnership between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) while addressing shared global challenges. He emphasised that Africa must continue to take a leading role in resolving its own security and governance issues through collective action, unity, and strengthened institutions.
“I delivered Eswatini’s message under the theme of Peace, Security, Governance, and Multilateralism, emphasising African solutions to African problems and the importance of strengthening the African Peace and Security Architecture,” he said.
Dlamini further welcomed the UN Security Council Resolution 2719, describing it as a significant development that ensures predictable and sustainable funding for AU-led peace support operations.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Economic Planning and Development, Dr Thambo Gina, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Eswatini to Angola, H.E. Mlondi Dlamini, as well as senior government officials. Their participation reinforced Eswatini’s support for continental cooperation and multilateral engagements.
During his address, Dlamini reiterated Eswatini’s long-standing position on reforming the UN Security Council. He reaffirmed the country’s support for the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration, both of which advocate fair and equitable African representation within the Security Council. The reforms include the allocation of permanent seats with full veto powers for Africa—an essential step, he argued, towards correcting historical imbalances and ensuring Africa’s voice is recognised in global decision-making structures.
Beyond the main summit proceedings, the Prime Minister also took part in a meeting of President William Ruto’s Ad-Hoc Oversight Committee on AU Institutional Reform. The committee tabled a progress report detailing developments in the AU’s ongoing reform process. Dlamini expressed Eswatini’s appreciation for the work undertaken to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and financial independence of the AU.
Eswatini commended the commitment shown by African leaders in advancing institutional reform, stressing that a stronger and more self-reliant AU is vital for addressing continental challenges and building sustainable peace.
The Prime Minister returned to Eswatini on Thursday, 27 November 2025, following a four-day mission that began on Sunday, 23 November 2025. His engagements in Luanda reinforced the nation’s continued dedication to regional unity, multilateral cooperation, and proactive leadership in continental affairs.
