Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) is investigating a series of criminal incidents involving housebreaking, theft and arson in Mbabane and Siteki, leaving families counting heavy losses and communities concerned about safety.
In Mbabane, police are investigating a housebreaking and theft case that occurred in the Mantjolo area, where E196 000 in cash was stolen. The incident happened on December 21, 2025, at about 23:30 hours. According to police, a 31-year-old man returned home with his family after attending a social gathering. On entering the house, they discovered that the sliding door lock to the master bedroom had been forcibly broken and that the money, which had been kept in a bag inside a wardrobe, was missing.
Police have warned members of the public against keeping large sums of money in their homes, saying this exposes families to danger. Business owners have been encouraged to bank their money regularly to reduce the risk of theft.
Meanwhile, Siteki police are investigating an arson case at Sitsatsaweni area, where property valued at about E73 000 was deliberately set on fire. The incident was discovered on the morning of December 21, 2025, at around 08:00 hours. A 34-year-old man reported that his consultation room (indumba), traditional herbs and household items were destroyed in the fire. The motive remains unknown and no arrests have been made.
In a separate case, a 37-year-old man from Ngoni is expected to appear in court on December 23, 2025, facing an arson charge. Police allege that the suspect had earlier argued with his sister at their homestead. Later the same day, he allegedly returned with matches and set fire to his sisters’ bedrooms and property valued at E79 500. The suspect was later arrested at his girlfriend’s residence in the Madvubeni area.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service have urged members of the public to avoid violence, especially in family disputes, and to seek peaceful solutions. Police say such acts not only destroy property but also leave lasting emotional and social harm within families and communities.
