POLICE URGE VIGILANCE FOR A SAFE FESTIVE SEASON

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and take simple safety precautions as the festive season reaches its peak, particularly during last-minute Christmas shopping.

In a public advisory issued this week, the police reminded Emaswati that while the festive season is a time of joy and celebration, it can also present opportunities for criminal activity if caution is not exercised. The call forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to ensure that communities enjoy a peaceful and secure Christmas.

REPS urged shoppers to avoid carrying large sums of cash or leaving money and valuables unattended in motor vehicles. Members of the public were also cautioned against accepting unsolicited assistance from strangers offering help at shops or shopping centres, as this can sometimes be a tactic used by criminals.

In addition, the police highlighted the importance of safeguarding ATM cards and personal identification numbers. Citizens were advised to keep their bank cards secure at all times and to immediately cancel them if they are lost or stolen, in order to prevent unauthorised transactions.

National Commissioner of Police, Mr Manoma Vusie Masango, reaffirmed the police service’s commitment to protecting the public throughout the festive period. He encouraged emaSwati to stay alert, cooperate with law enforcement, and report any suspicious activities promptly.

“The festive season should be a time of happiness for all. By staying alert and taking responsibility for our personal safety, we can avoid turning Christmas into a gloomy experience,” the police message stated.

The Royal Eswatini Police Service further reassured the public that officers remain on high alert nationwide to ensure safety and rapid response to emergencies. Members of the public were reminded that emergency assistance is available by dialling 999, 9999, 112, or 7999 1000.

As families prepare to celebrate Christmas, the police appealed for collective responsibility, emphasising that vigilance, cooperation, and care for one another will help ensure a safe, joyful, and crime-free festive season for all Emaswati.
