Africa-Press – Eswatini. PRESIDENT of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Tsai Ing-wen will be accompanied by four legislators in her trip to the country next week.
The legislators, according to an announcement by President Tsai’s office yesterday, are Chiu Chih-wei Chiu Tai-yuan and Fan Yun from the Democratic Progressive Party, as well as Chiu Chen-yuan from the Taiwan People’s Party.
Chen Chi-mai, Mayor of Kaohsiung, a special municipality known as ‘Taiwan’s Maritime Capital’ because of its renowned tourism industry and beautification of the urban landscape, will also join the delegation with hopes to establish sister relations, with the country’s capital, Mbabane.”
Taiwan Presidential Office Spokesperson, Lin Yu-chan said the office coordinated with the Legislative Yuan to invite the lawmakers from various political parties to participate with Tsai under the theme of ‘Celebrating Enduring Friendship, Advancing Sustainable Cooperation.’
Government issued a statement on Monday, informing the public that President Tsai would spend two days (September 5-7) in the country and that she was expected to among other things, grace the country’s 55/55 Double Celebrations.
The Taiwan’s President Office spokesperson thanked the four legislators for their participation, stating that it would greatly contribute to Taiwan’s diplomatic efforts.
“The visit aims to highlight the strong bilateral ties and promote sustainable cooperation between the two countries,” reads a part of the statement.
Eswatini is Taiwan’s only African diplomatic friend and this year also marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Eswatini.
