Prime Minister Strengthens Police Efforts in Eswatini

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has hailed the steadfast support of Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, describing his commitment as a major force behind the organisation’s strengthened operations and improved national safety.

The appreciation was expressed by the National Commissioner of Police, Manoma Vusie Masango, during the Senior Police Officers and Senior Civilian Staff End-of-Year Conference held at the Matsapha Police Academy on Thursday, 11 December 2025.

Addressing senior officers, government representatives and members of the media, the National Commissioner opened the conference by welcoming all delegates to what he described as a momentous event marking the close of a demanding but impactful year. He noted that despite challenges faced in 2025, the police service had been guided and protected, and now looked forward to entering 2026 with renewed focus and determination.

A central highlight of the Commissioner’s remarks was his heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister, who also serves as the Minister responsible for Police Affairs. He praised the Premier’s hands-on leadership, emphasising that his visible presence in critical policing moments had lifted morale across the service. The Commissioner recalled the Prime Minister’s recent leadership role during the launch of the festive season safety operations in Ngculwini, an event that united Cabinet, Parliament and various national stakeholders behind a shared mission of safeguarding lives during the busy holiday period.

The annual conference, attended by senior police officers and high-level civilian support staff, serves as a strategic platform to review the year’s performance in crime prevention and traffic management. Participants also use the gathering to refine their operational strategies and outline priorities for the year ahead. This year’s theme, “Police Remain Resolute in Dismantling Crime Syndicates and Preventing Road Crashes to Fortify the Security and Safety of the Nation,” underscores REPS’s renewed dedication to creating a safer Eswatini through vigilance, innovation and collaborative partnerships.

The Commissioner highlighted the organisation’s achievements in fighting crime, including key Memoranda of Understanding signed with the Mbabane Municipal Council and the Central Bank of Eswatini. These agreements, he said, reflect a growing commitment across institutions to promote a crime-free society. On the international stage, REPS strengthened its global policing presence through participation in the INTERPOL 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech and the 30th SARPCOOP Annual General Meeting in Dar es Salaam. Notably, Eswatini was selected to join a regional task team dedicated to combating stock theft—a crime of significant concern across Southern Africa.

Recognising the importance of officer welfare, the Commissioner also announced the successful launch of the Police Health and Welfare Manual, which provides a structured framework to support psychological, physical and emotional well-being within the service. He further revealed that the task team investigating police suicides had submitted its preliminary report, marking an important step in addressing mental-health-related challenges within the force.

As the conference continues, delegates are expected to discuss practical approaches to enhancing national security, strengthening community partnerships, and improving operational efficiency. With strong government backing and a united leadership, the REPS enters 2026 with reinforced purpose—committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a safer, more secure Eswatini for all.
