Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training, Nanikie Mnisi, has delivered a passionate call for youth empowerment. She urged institutions and leaders to focus on genuine development opportunities rather than using young people for publicity or profit.

Speaking at the EU World Skills Day event under the theme “Repositioning TVET as First Choice for Youth”, hosted by ENYC and the European Union at Hilton Garden Inn. “We should get funds to empower the youth, not to fundraise using them.” Mnisi stressed.

Her remarks resonated with attendees, many of whom work in education, skills training, and youth development. She encouraged the formation of youth-led teams where young people could combine their talents to create practical, meaningful projects.

“Let’s advocate for job creation where the youth can work together,” she said. “They must combine their different skills into something innovative and impactful.”

Mnisi also advised prospective students to research training institutions thoroughly. “Know where you are going. Not all of them are focused on real empowerment,” she warned, criticising centres more interested in profits than youth development.

The PS acknowledged that access to funding remains a major challenge for many young people. “It is very hard to access tuition support,” she said. “Many are trying to raise money just to learn and grow.”

She emphasised the importance of bringing empowerment programmes to urban areas. “Our foundation is still developing, but the goal is to reach the city level, where the need is most visible.”

Youth representative echoed her views. “This is not about raising money on the backs of youth. It’s about investing in them and their future,” she said.

The organisations applying for donor funding to work together. “We need clear plans, proper communication, and collaboration to avoid duplication”.

Also stressed the importance of training in modern sectors like quantum manufacturing and logistics. “Even if you’re not employed in those fields, you must understand them,” said.

As the event concluded, Mnisi called for unity. “Let’s not just talk about change. Let’s reach out and lift people up together,” she said.
