Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mbabane Highlanders newly-acquired midfield maestro Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze says he has settled in nicely at his new team since crossing the Rubicon from rivals Mbabane Swallows.
The player, who was involved in a protracted transfer saga, which saw him suspended by his former team after handing in a transfer request, said he was happy to have found a new home with the Black Bull.
He joined the team after Highlanders paid E80 000 for his services.
He joined the side earlier this month before the international break and has been training with the side eversince.
Speaking during an interview with Eswatini TV Sports News, ‘Pupu’ said he had been adjusting well to his new surroundings, as he thanked the club’s structures for welcoming him. He said he was impressed with his teammates since joining them for training and was confident they could be a threat this season.
“All I can say is that I feel at home and everyone at the club has welcomed me with open arms from the chairman down to my teammates.
When I look at the team that has been assembled, I am confident that we are a good side and could challenge for honours this season and do well,” he said.
The talented midfielder went on to say he did not feel any kind of pressure to perform well after making the high profile switch to Highlanders. He said he was not new to being expected to perform on the big stage and was looking forward to the challenge.
“There is no pressure on me because playing for Highlanders is the same as playing for Mbabane Swallows. These are both big teams and none is bigger than the other, so the expectations are the same. I will continue playing my normal brand of football like I always have, so there is no pressure on me,” added ‘Pupu’.
He is expected to make his debut this afternoon when his side plays against Illovo FC at Mayaluka Stadium, with kick-off set for 3pm.
