Africa-Press – Eswatini. A fresh show of force against the drug trade, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has once again struck at the heart of dagga cultivation in Nyonyane, leaving traffickers counting heavy losses.
On September 22,2025, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit destroyed vast dagga fields in the area, dealing a heavy blow to the illegal trade. About twenty-seven (27) hectares of dagga were destroyed using drone sprays, while thirty-five (35) hectares were cleared through general spraying.
During the same operation, a woman was arrested after being found in possession of a bag of dagga. She is expected to appear before the Pigg’s Peak Magistrate Court.
This latest success comes just a week after REPS announced a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in Nyonyane. In that operation, officers seized a massive consignment of dagga weighing 2 169 kilograms with an estimated street value of E5.4 million.
A 38-year-old suspect was arrested after a raid uncovered a house used as a storage facility, where 277 bags of dagga and unprocessed product were retrieved. He appeared before the Mbabane Magistrate’s Court.
Police spokespersons have assured the nation that these operations form part of an ongoing strategy to eliminate drug cultivation and trafficking across the country. The use of advanced technology, including drones, has significantly strengthened the fight.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service has urged communities to continue supporting law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities, emphasizing that collective effort is key to creating a drug-free nation.
