Africa-Press – Eswatini. Former Eswatini international Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa is worried about the struggles of the Manzini clubs in the elite league this season.

The former Kaizer Chiefs player expressed his concerns after learning that the teams were fighting to get out of the relegation zone. After last week’s fixtures, Denver Sundowns joined Manzini Wanderers and Moneni Pirates at the bottom of the 2023/24 MTN Premier League log standings. Pirates are still holding the wooden spoon with five points, while the hub-giants are above them with six points. Sundowns are perched 11th with nine points in 11 outings.

The Scara Thindwa Foundation founder was moved, more especially by hearing that an iconic club in football such as the ‘Weslians’, as Wanderers are fondly known, were battling relegation again this campaign are suggesting. “It does not portray a good sight for football if the teams, from the same city. Companies must assist these teams as they might be facing similar problems. They are in danger of extinction from the football brand, more so the big team Wanderers if they are not rescued,” he said in an open table discussion last Sunday, after the Sports Legends of Eswatini Association press conference held at Lobamba.

The Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe’s charges, had financial woes dating back to last season. This saw the team failing to fulfil its players’ financial obligations, which has led to destabilisation even this season. Latest reports suggest that even Sundowns have caught the ‘flu’, with players alleging that management has failed to honour their salaries for the past few months. Pirates and Wanderers are still searching for their first win of the season, while Denver have managed to win three games. With 15 games to spare in the league, only the bottom two clubs shall be axed to the lower division.
