SG Trey: the Voice Behind Viral Hit Ng’Funa K’Khuluma Nawe

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Swazi-born artist opens up about music, pain, and purpose.Rising Afrobeat star SG Trey, real name Sinethemba Gamedze, is capturing hearts across borders with his emotionally raw track “Ng’funa K’khuluma Nawe”, a song that began as a personal cry for clarity and healing, and has since become an anthem for many navigating grief, heartbreak, and life’s unanswered questions.

Originally from eNgcina, Siteki in the Lubombo region, and now based in Elukwatini, Mpumalanga, SG Trey says the song was born in a moment of deep reflection.

“I was in a very emotional state… I felt like I could have a conversation with my creator. I had so many negative thoughts in my head,” he shares. “I felt like it would be better if I knew the real reason why I was brought to earth.”

That internal dialogue became Ng’funa K’khuluma Nawe, a heartfelt expression of vulnerability that he initially planned to move past quickly, until the internet spoke louder.

“I dropped the song, shot a video, and was ready to move on to the next one. But then I realized the song was growing very fast on TikTok… It needed me to focus on it,” he says. “Maybe it’s because lengoma beyikukhala kwami, it was my cry. So I wanted to move on.”

Now, Trey recognizes that the track means even more to his fans than it did to him initially.

“Some people are dedicating the song to their loved ones that have passed on. It shows me that the song means more than what I think.”

Trey’s love for music began in high school in 2014 at Siteki Nazarene High, heavily influenced by hip hop, “vele sicale sibom rapper,” he laughs. By 2017, he began producing beats, diving into various genres to sharpen his skills, and by 2021, he was producing his entire music projects independently.

But it’s Afrobeat that eventually stole his heart.

“I began to fall in love with Afrobeat… I really don’t know why,” he says with a laugh, “but it just makes sense to me. Especially because I get to add a bit of Amapiano, the leading genre right now.”

Inspired by the likes of Omah Lay, Davido, Victony, Fridayy, Blaq Diamond, and Sjava, SG Trey’s sound is a genre blend rooted in emotion, music that’s easy to vibe to but also deep enough to make you feel something real.

For Trey, making music is not just about topping charts, it’s about connection and healing.

“I want to touch lives. I want to give people an experience of how things are in my world, in my head,” he says.

And his definition of success? It’s as pure as his sound:

“Success for me is gonna be when I’m in front of a huge crowd performing, and everyone of them knows every word of the song.”

With Ng’funa K’khuluma Nawe already reaching thousands across platforms, it seems that moment is closer than he thinks.
