Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has revealed that it costs an arm and a leg to maintain the senior national team, Sihlangu.

This was said by the EFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu during a press conference, which was held at Sigwaca House in Mbabane yesterday. “For the national team to perform at their best and to cover their day-to-day training and match allowances, Sihlangu needs E25 million. The players need to be incentivised, travelling allowances and there is just a lot needed for the national team to perform at its optimum level,” said Mngomezulu. He said the national team could perform well, provided they were well funded.

Tough

“After this AFCON game in the next few weeks, they will be travelling to South Africa for COSAFA, and later they will be playing the World Cup qualifiers, which are equally tough. So they do need support to do well both from government and the private sector,” he said. He said they could not use FIFA funds as they pleased, because all FIFA funds were accounted for.

“All the money we utilise, we are guided by FIFA goal projects. We are not allowed to use money the way we want; FIFA always guides us on how we spend the money. “FIFA has helped us build our Sigwaca House Commercial wing; it is the same FIFA that has ensured we build the technical centres with grounds; the mother body is involved from the start to finish,” said the CEO. He also added that they would also build a technical centre in Manzini and hopefully look into upgrading one of these technical venues into fully-fledged stadiums, like installing more stands.
