Africa-Press – Eswatini. The national team, Sihlangu, will start their TOTALEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 Group B stages match against Togo away.
This is according to a schedule which was issued by Eswatini Football Association (EFA) yesterday on its Facebook page. “Eswatini is scheduled to play against Togo on the first away game in Group B. They will then host Burkina Faso at home, before visiting Cape Verde on the third AFCON 2023 match. “The Dominic Kunene-led charges will then host Cape Verde on their fourth game, and host Togo in the fifth game at home, and play their last game against Burkina Faso away,” read the statement in part. When reached for comment to clarify on the dates, EFA Media Officer Muzi Radebe, said this was only a schedule and they were waiting for official Confederation of African Football (CAF) fixtures.
“As per CAF’s schedule, the first game which is against Togo and the second game which is against Burkina Faso will be played between May 30 and June 14 2022, while the home and away game against Cape Verde will be played between September19-27 2022. The home game against Togo and away game against Burkina Faso will be held between March 20-28, 2023,” said Radebe. The venues and exact time have not been issued as per Radebe response. Sihlangu are currently using Mbombela Stadium as their home venue as Somhlolo National Stadium is unavailable. Only the two teams will qualify for the main tournament in Ivory Coast next year. Eswatini got into the group stages of the continent’s biggest soccer tournament after beating Somalia in the preliminary stages on a 5-2 aggregate score.
