SNAT Sues Government over Unpaid Salaries for Teachers

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Lot Vilakati, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) says, the trade union will soon take Government to court, demanding outstanding salaries due to removed temporary teachers including the thirteenth (13th) cheque.

Speaking this week, the SNAT Secretary General said, the temporal teachers have been removed from the Government payment system.

“This means they won’t be able to make a follow-up, their thirteenth cheque is gone just like that because Government refused to renew their contracts. Government refused to renew contracts for some teachers but their being owed their money, we are now left with no alternative but to approach the courts in demand for the outstanding salaries,” said the SNAT Secretary General.

Efforts to reach Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

SNAT is Eswatini’s main and largest trade union with over thirteen thousand (13000) members, the trade has been consistently fighting for the welfare of its members.
