Africa-Press – Eswatini. Some of the elders of Mbabane Swallows are not happy with the team’s General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane.
The elders’ viewpoint emanates from Zwane, prompting them to confront him about certain statements he made on national radio on Monday. Bhekithemba Ginindza, a member of the council of elders and Enock Nkosi, the secretary to the council, visited the Times Head Offices in Mbabane to address these concerns. Unfortunately, the chairperson, Absalom Ngwenya, was unable to attend due to reported illness and was in Nelspruit for a medical check-up, as per Ginindza.
Clarify
“We want to clarify and address team issues surrounding certain statements made by our general manager on radio. Our mandate is to consider and resolve issues whenever they arise. Zwane spoke about the Primo sponsorship without consulting us, and all we ask is for him to engage with the elders before making such decisions,” explained Ginindza. He emphasised the importance of reporting to the elders, who would then take the matter to the team president. Ginindza revealed that Zwane had communicated with Ngwenya, but they believed Ngwenya should be allowed to rest due to his current illness, and Zwane should report to them instead. Expressing concerns about Zwane and his management committee (MC), they highlighted recent summons to the MC for a meeting, which none of the members attended.
Criticisms
Despite their criticisms of Zwane, the elders acknowledged his praise for President Archbishop Bheki Lukhele on radio, where he highlighted the president’s support in providing transportation, accommodation and training facilities for the team. The elders mentioned ongoing discussions with the president to encourage his full return to the team, but they feared that Zwane’s remarks on radio could jeopardse these talks. They requested uninterrupted discussions with the president and clarified that the team was not up for grabs, contrary to Zwane’s assertions on radio. However, upon listening to the recording, Zwane said they were open to good Samaritans who could help the team. They expressed gratitude for the president’s contributions and remained open to support from others.
In response, Zwane stated that he did not recognise the two officials who visited the Times. “We report everything to the elders, and the chairman is fully informed of the team’s activities. The president is also aware of the situation. If there are any concerns, the chairman will provide guidance. As far as we know, we report everything to the team’s elders,” said Zwane. He expressed disappointment at the officials’ visit to the newsroom, suggesting that obtaining updates from the chairperson would have been a more straightforward solution.
