Africa-Press – Eswatini. Simunye stadium to host matches years later.

Information sourced from MTN Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) fixture was that Simunye stadium will host a match between Manzini Sea Birds and Rangers today. The players are set to have a taste of the said Lusoti Village based facility more than 15 years its services were last used. The stadium was popularly known as Goshe Szokolay Memorial Stadium and had a high record of big teams being defeated by super league clubs. Manzini Wanderers was eliminated by Lomahasha Limited in the BP Cup. Mbabane Highlanders was also eliminated by one of the then small clubs in penalties.

A memorable game was between Manzini Wanderers and Mbabane Highlanders wherein the Manzini hub giant lost 3-2. This was between the years 1988 to 1989. Other PLE teams that used to play there were Denver Sundowns, Royal Leopards, Young Buffaloes and Green Mamba to name a few. The venue is where Lubombo Super League clubs used to play their matches. Manzini Sea Birds Public Relations Officer (PRO) Thamie Cebe confirmed that the team was hosting the Nhlangano side at Simunye and said the venue was available for use hence they booked it.

“Indeed the match will be held at Simunye, I believe it is in good condition as PLE ensures to inspect facilities before approving that they can be used”, Cebe said. Meanwhile, PLE Football Manager Pat ‘Kungumusa’ Vilakati said the stadium was ready for use as they have inspected it.

“We have monitored the stadium, inspected crucial aspects like dressing rooms and we are certain that it is suitable to host games,” Vilakati said.

Vilakati went on to invite the residents of Simunye to watch the match, as they would also benefit from the hosting of match.
