Africa-Press – Eswatini. One salary can no longer secure a stable future; Adequate Buthelezi exemplifies how purpose and persistence can transform a side hustle into a national brand.

By day, she serves as a Correctional Services Officer. By night and on weekends, she is the founder of GLIM Skincare, a fast-growing local beauty brand with more than 300 active distributors across Eswatini. Buthelezi sees it as more than just business , it is a lifestyle of building sustainability and independence.

“Life wasn’t easy growing up, but I’ve always been a hustler at heart,” she says.

Buthelezi was born and raised in Big Bend, lost both her parents at a young age and was raised by her grandmother. The hardship of her early years sparked a drive to create something meaningful out of every opportunity.

Adequate’s journey into skincare began with personal frustrations. She struggled with acne and dark spots for years, and after trying countless products that failed to deliver, she began researching natural solutions.“I wanted to create products that actually work, affordable, natural, and reliable,” she said.

She started small, formulating the first products herself through trial, research, and listening to customer feedback. As demand increased, she brought in professionals to support product safety and quality, but every item still stems from her original vision.GLIM officially launched in 2020, and has since grown into a household name in many communities, powered by women, young people, and a belief in local solutions.

Balancing a demanding government job with business requires extreme discipline. Adequate has mastered the art of time management, using evenings, weekends, and any spare moment to push her vision forward.“Running a business while handling other responsibilities takes focus. But consistency over time creates big results,” she said.

Her story speaks to many young professionals who are employed, but wishing for more. Adequate is part of a generation that understands one stream of income cannot sustain a lifetime, a belief that fuels her commitment to growth.

Over the years, Adequate has learned valuable lessons about money, discipline, and mental strength. Through business, she has developed the ability to stretch limited resources, reinvest profits, and steadily build financial security.“Business has helped me grow mentally and emotionally. I’ve learned the power of reinvesting, and how important financial independence is , especially as a woman.”

Her work in uniformed service taught her discipline and structure, but running a business has given her freedom , the kind of freedom she believes every woman should have. To those who depend on just one salary or keep putting off their dreams while waiting for the “right time,” Buthelezi shares an encouraging advice:

“Don’t limit yourself. Use your current job to fund your dream. Start small, even R100 worth of stock can grow into something big if you stay consistent. I started small too.”

Her journey is not just about skincare , it’s about empowerment, resilience, and the power of starting where you are.As both a public servant and a businesswoman, Buthelezi continues to redefine what it means to serve ,not just the country, but also herself, her future, and her community.
