Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Swaziland Action Group Against Abuse (SWAGAA) has strongly condemned a disturbing viral video in which a uniformed officer suggests that women who refuse sexual advances after visiting men are to blame for any violence they face.
In a press statement, the organisation described the officer’s remarks as “irresponsible,” particularly because they come from someone in a position of authority. SWAGAA said the comments promote harmful gender stereotypes and normalize gender-based violence (GBV).
“Consent is not conditional,” the organisation stated firmly. “It is the right of every individual, regardless of gender, relationship status, or location, to say no to sexual activity at any time.” SWAGAA emphasized that visiting someone’s home should never be misconstrued as consent to sex.
The organisation warned that such statements perpetuate dangerous myths about consent and strip survivors of their dignity by shifting the blame onto them instead of holding perpetrators accountable.
SWAGAA stressed the importance of proper training for public servants especially law enforcement officers on how to uphold the rights of all individuals and maintain professional standards in protecting the public.
Reaffirming its mission, SWAGAA called on all Emaswati to stand against toxic gender norms and support survivors of GBV. It urged the public to challenge harmful narratives and help build a society rooted in equality, respect, and human rights.
“Let’s reject excuses for abuse and choose a culture that puts consent, dignity, and justice first,” the organisation urged.
