Africa-Press – Eswatini. The nation’s premier swimmer, Hayley Hoy, has struck gold, receiving an impressive E65 000 in incentives for her remarkable achievements at regional competitions.
The Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima, presented this generous incentive to Hoy on Monday.
Hoy, who represents the Swim Lab Swimming Club, showcased her exceptional talent and determination at the Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming Championships held in Namibia last December. She proudly hoisted the country’s flag high, securing three gold medals and one bronze medal.
The gold medals, each carrying an incentive of E20 000, were awarded for her outstanding performances in the 100m Butterfly, 3km Open Water, and 200m Butterfly events. Additionally, she claimed a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle, which is worth E5 000.
Following closely behind, fellow swimmer Luca garnered a commendable E30 000 after clinching a gold medal in the 50m breaststroke, alongside bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
Chadd Ning, currently training in London, received E15 000 for his triumph in the 50m Breaststroke, complemented by a bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke.
In the realm of boxing, Andile Sibandze was awarded E10 000 for securing a silver medal in the Zone IV African Boxing Championships held in Maputo, Mozambique, competing in the under-60kg category.
Moreover, the relay teams that represented the nation at the CAA Regional Relay Championships in Botswana also celebrated success, receiving a combined incentive of E50 000. The men’s netball team was similarly rewarded with E10 000 for their impressive performance, earning a silver medal in the Africa Netball Regional Championships.
