Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Taiwan Medical Mission has extended essential healthcare services to the Nhlambeni community, providing medical assistance to more than 278 residents during an outreach programme held on 7 February 2026.

The initiative forms part of the mission’s ongoing efforts to close healthcare gaps in rural areas where access to clinics and hospitals remains limited. Speaking during the outreach, Taiwan Medical Mission Chief Dr Cheng Wenhsuan said the programme was designed to bring medical services closer to communities that face persistent barriers to healthcare access.

Dr Cheng said many residents struggle to reach health facilities due to long distances, poor road infrastructure, and unreliable transport. He added that recent heavy rains further worsened the situation, leaving some communities isolated.

“Even when people manage to reach clinics, they may find that essential medication is unavailable. Bringing healthcare directly to communities helps ensure people receive the care they need in time,” he said.

He noted that the outreach programme operates twice a month across different regions, allowing the mission to reach a broader population. Among the most common health challenges identified in rural communities is worm infestation among both children and adults, which often results in related skin and stomach infections.

To address a wide range of conditions, the mission deployed a team of eight doctors with different medical specialisations. In addition to free consultations and medication, residents also received health education focused on disease prevention, hygiene, and nutrition.

Nhlambeni Member of Parliament Manzi Zwane welcomed the outreach, describing it as critical support for a constituency with limited healthcare resources. He said Nhlambeni has only one clinic serving a large population, making medical outreach programmes essential.

“The services provided by the Taiwan Medical Mission help close a serious gap in healthcare access for our people,” said Zwane.

Taiwan’s Minister to Eswatini, Ching Lin Tsuei, reaffirmed Taiwan’s long term commitment to supporting healthcare services in the Kingdom, emphasising that healthcare should be accessible to all communities.
