Africa-Press – Eswatini. All is not well at the hub giants, as serious division is looms at Manzini Wanderers ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Word coming from one of the high ranking officials within the club is that he is wanted out and allegedly getting threats to step down. The official says the threats come from a section of disgruntled supporters of the team.
Insiders told this publication that the official was verbally attacked on Saturday at the King Sobhuza II Stadium after the team’s loss to Nsingizini Hotspurs during the Hospice at Home Charity Cup games.
The bone of contention, according to those in the know, are funds that were allegedly deposited to cater for players through a MoMo account, which the fans believe didn’t reach the beneficiaries. Some of the allegations levelled against the official cannot be repeated for ethical reasons.
So serious is the situation that the official threatened to step down.
“Despite the sacrifices I made for the club, I have been called all sorts of names. I’ve been getting serious threats from a section of supporters. I’m ready to vacate office as the situation is no longer conducive for me. I’m so sorry if I did anything wrong maWeseli,” said the official while trying to extinguish what looks like an irreversible situation.
Reached for comment, the team’s Management Committee Chairman, Berger Nxumalo confirmed the situation in the club and further condoned the unbecoming behaviour of the section of fans.
“We are aware of the matter. This is totally unacceptable and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms. We sacrifice a lot for this club and it’s so painful that at the end of the day, we get such insults.
We need to address the issue once and for all on Saturday during our AGM,” he appealed.
Meanwhile, the attack against the official comes after the resignation of long-serving official Sandile ‘Ntofo’Dlamini, who vacated office less than a week after being recalled to serve in the marketing department.
It is said a clique of supporters forced Dlamini out of the team, as they believed he betrayed them when he joined Vovovo and Seven Dreams, respectively in the past. They believed he could not be trusted as a die-hard Wanderers person
The crowd-pulling side had a tough 2022/23 season, as they flirted with relegation until seasoned gaffer Nyanga ‘Crooks’Hlophe, whom they referred to as their ‘Messiah’ was literally poached from Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows, as he lifted them out of what could have been doldrums of football history.
