Africa-Press – Eswatini. A transfer showdown looms between Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard, if reports surrounding highly-rated forward Banele ‘Neymar’ Shongwe are anything to go by.
Swallows were reportedly close to signing the former Tambuti striker and allegedly paid a deposit of over E25 000 for the player, before the police side tabled a better offer. “Swallows are hot under the collar following the latest developments and feel disrespected. They want to take the matter further. Apparently, close relatives have advised the player to opt for the Leopard offer. He has agreed terms with the latter, but is yet to sign on the dotted line. Swallows are making a last ditch effort to block the Leopard move,” alleged an impeccable source.
scored
The player, who scored over 10 goals in last season’s MTN Premier League campaign, was reportedly a free agent before Leopard made attempts to snatch him under Swallows’ nose. He travelled with Swallows to the Red Card GBV Preseason Soccer Tournament, which was staged at Lynville Stadium in Witbank, South Africa (SA), about a fortnight ago. Swallows won the tournament. The striker, who is named after Neymar da Silva Santos, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, was believed to have impressed the Caleb Ngwenya-led technical team, after scoring two goals in the tournament.
Swallows were crowned champions of the Red Card GBV Preseason Soccer Tournament. The ‘Birds’ won the first game 2-0 against Middelburg, with Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala scoring a brace to become the match hero. Umkhonto KaShaka recorded a 3-0 win in the second match against TUT, with ‘Neymar’ netting a brace of his own before Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini put the last nail on the rivals’ coffin.
reports
Swallows Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge Ngwenya said he was not aware of the developments, as he was still waiting for reports from the team management after the past weekend’s activities. Leopard PRO Frank Hurube, on the other hand, did not respond to text messages sent to his phone. His phone also rang unanswered.
