Africa-Press – Eswatini. THE MTN Premier League will take a two-week break to give way to the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers where Sihlangu Semnikati will face-off with Somalia on March 23 in the first leg.
The second leg will take place three days later.
The nation’s pride is expected to leave the country this weekend for Tanzania where the first leg will be played. A source close to the matter said the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) had already written to the PLE, asking that teams release players for a full-time camp which started yesterday.
This, therefore, means that the MTN Premier League will return next month. However, the MTN National First Division (NFD) will not be affected by the FIFA week. Premier League of Eswatini Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati’s phone rang unanswered when tried several times on Monday and yesterday.
Meanwhile, when football resumes, all eyes will be on the security forces derby between Green Mamba and Royal Leopard while struggling hub giants Manzini Wanderers will take on army side Young Buffaloes.
Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders have a tricky affair with Manzini Sea Birds. Elsewhere, Mbabane Swallows will face Milling Hotspurs while Tambankulu Callies will trek to King Sobhuza II Stadium to play Rangers.
