UNEMPLOYMENT ANOTHER PANDEMIC

Africa-Press – Eswatini. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in 2019, everybody’s guess was as good as that of people in other countries baffled by the pandemic.

Notwithstanding the tedious effects of the pandemic, hordes of emaswati lost their lives, especially from the second wave, which was more lethal than the first. May their souls continue to rest in peace.

Another raging pandemic, unemployment, is continuously scuttling the lives of emaswati. To me, the effects of COVID-19 and unemployment in the kingdom are at par. Had it not been that some people are vaccinated for the virus, they would literally be no distinction between the two. This is painful!

I shrink and become restless when I have to believe that most of the young and qualified population is stuck at home. As old and ageing as they are, they are still their parents’ burden. Who forced our minds to believe in the vernacular maxim; ‘Bantfwana bangumliba loya embili’? Investigating the current status quo, this is wickedness to the children!

When COVID-19 hit most countries, total lockdowns were introduced. Help me to identify the line of demarcation between the total lockdown and the way unemployed graduates are packed in their residencies. Well, perhaps my curiosity sometimes overwhelms me, hasn’t unemployment resulted in conflicts, family divisions and divorce to say the least? If not, these two are just the same. Anonymously, we are fighting two battles: unemployment and COVID-19.People, it is true, are swept away from the face of the earth with each passing day and among suicide victims, are victims of stress, depression and chronic infections.

Unemployment

Has the dramatically high rate of unemployment not contributed to these nerve-wrecking occurrences? If that is true, unemployment and COVID-19 are at par! No amount of ‘vaccination’ would ever bring a smile to the unemployed person than getting employed. It would not suppress but would get rid of any intoxication within the victims of unemployment. It would bring joy to all households that are affected by unemployment in the country.
