Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sihlangu Semnikati head coach Dominic Kunene says the squad is in good shape, ahead of the match against Botswana in the 2023 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup opener this afternoon at King Zwelithini Stadium.
The local side will be seeking revenge after they were knocked out in the last COSAFA Cup by the Zebras.
The former Young Buffaloes mentor said they had done all the necessary preparations for the Group A opener.
” I can’t say we will win but the 90 minutes will decide which team prepared well for the encounter. My boys did their last training in the morning and they look promising. We will put a good fight inside the pitch and thrive for positive results,” he said.
Meanwhile, versatile player Kwakhe Thwala admitted that it won’t be an easy match.
“Botswana are not an easy team to come up against but I am confident that we will get the maximum points,” he said.
The Mbabane Swallows player also mentioned that the tournament would present opportunities for him as there will be scouts monitoring him during the tournament.
This year’s edition will have a new format which will see teams drawn into three groups of four sides with the top side in each pool progressing to the semifinals.
The Eswatini Football Association has promised winning bonuses to the players if they will perform according to expectations in the regional showpiece.
The senior national side will also take on Namibia and South Africa in their next group matches.
