What I Learned after Attending Former South African Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’S Special Dinner, a Humble Man whose Poverty Background Remains an Inspiration

Africa-Press – Eswatini. On Friday evening,I was honored with an invitation to attend former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s Special Dinner organized by the Tshwane Society of Advocates(TSA), it was indeed a memorable experience to interact with over fifty(50) senior and junior Advocates.

Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) and Treasurer General Velaphi Mamba were also part of that event.

Former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s poverty background has been an inspiration to me, I once watched his interviews conducted the Judicial Service Commission(JSC) where he literally cried when narrating his poverty background.

But I never knew that writing news will one day earn me a sit next to the highly regarded former South African Chief Justice who was chairing the Commission of Enquiry into State Capture, having been appointed by former South African President Jacob Zuma.

The atmosphere during the Special Dinner was memorable, interacting with highly regarded South African Advocates, some who pledged to assist human rights defenders in eSwatini was an amazing experience.

The humbleness and open interaction of Chief Justice Raymond Zondo was also amazing,I hope one day in my own country we will have a Chief Justice who will be honored and respected by the Law Society of Eswatini(LSS) for the fair administration of justice.

Respect is earned and never demanded, CJ Raymond Zondo did not demand to be honored by the Advocates but, that was a surprise Special Dinner attended by a few high profile individuals such that, some of us received invitations three(3) hours before the Dinner.

I hope my own country will reach this stage, where we would honor individuals within our judicial system for their contribution in the fair administration of justice.

Raymond Zondo was living in poverty at a young age but, he climbed the judicial ladder to become the Chief Justice, this is an inspiration.
