Superintendent B. Njie and ASP Yaya Colleyrepresented the Inspector General of Police(IGP).
Stating the facts of the matter before the court, lead prosecutor Superintendent B. Njie narrated that the men were arrested in routine document checks by officers of the Gambia Immigration Department (GID).
“An investigation panel, which was led by the Immigration Intelligence Unit, was instituted. After the investigation, it was found that most of the accused persons are without documentswhile some are residents without regularising their immigration status. Necessary steps were taken and all the accused persons were brought before this honorable court,” said Superintendent Njie.
The prosecution then applied to the court for the deportation of all the accused persons as, according to it, they put an unbearable burden on the GID Command.
“These are undocumented migrants who may pose serious threats to national security,” Superintendent Njie added.
He informed the court of the availability of funds to repatriate the men to their countries of origin.
