Kairaclo Convenes First National Forum on TESITO, Championing Gambian Self-Reliance Philosophy

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Kairaba Conservation and Leadership Organization (KairaCLO) held its first National Consultative Forum on “Tesito”—The Gambia’s enduring concept of self-reliance—on Saturday at the University of The Gambia’s conference hall in Kanifing. The event convened national leaders to honor the legacy of the late Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara under the theme “Localizing Sustainable Development Goals.”

In his opening remarks, KairaCLO’s Secretary-General, Bemba Tambedou, underscored the importance of national unity and progress through collective effort. He described “Tesito” as a philosophy rooted in dignity, responsibility, and the belief that true development begins with the people.

Almami Fanding Taal, Chairman of KairaCLO, hailed the forum as a historic milestone, particularly as it followed the 101st birthday anniversary of the late Sir Dawda. “We consider today, a historical day because last week Friday was the 101 birthday anniversary of Sir Dawda and we wish that, whenever his birthday is around, we have significant events to mark his life and legacy,” he said.

Taal added, “his vision, his values are actually timeless, they are always a call to service a call to duty.”

Dr. Lamin B. Ceesay, representing the Vice-Chancellor of the University of The Gambia (UTG), reaffirmed UTG’s dedication to national development and announced a major partnership with KairaCLO.

“Tesito is a timeless principle, a rallying call for empowerment, responsibility, and collective action. From the former in the field to the policy maker in the government, from the young student to a seasoned academic, all must play a role in shaping the destiny of our nation,” he said.

Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang, former Vice President, also addressed the forum, lauding Sir Dawda’s contributions and stressing the importance of honoring national heroes during their lifetimes.

She noted that the late President’s leadership was distinguished by sincerity, unwavering focus, and consistent dedication. She emphasized that it was his personal example that galvanized the nation, making it possible to foster a spirit of collective national effort.

“From the famous words, Sir Dawda pronounced in his historic midnight speech on the 18th of February 1965 through the countless pronouncements, he subsequently made the mantra he maintained was the same diligent effort, productive work to help develop self community and nation” he said.

Additional speakers, including the Executive Directors of NACCUG and NEA, as well as the President of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, lauded Sir Dawda’s exemplary leadership and the continued relevance of “Tesito” in shaping The Gambia’s future.
